About Sheffield SENDIAS
Sheffield SEN & Disability Information Advice and Support (SSENDIAS)
We provide, information, advice and support on special educational needs & disability (SEND).
It’s a statutory service, which means it must be provided by law. Every local authority in England has this type of service and what they provide is detailed in chapter 2 of the SEND Code of Practice.
Every IAS service must work to an agreed set of minimum standards, These minimum standards are based on the requirements relating to support that Information, Advice and Support Services must provide, as set out in the Children and Families Act (CFA) 2014, the SEND Code of Practice and on additional legal advice commissioned by the Information, Advice and Support Service Network: You can view the minimum standards here.
Download our 2020-2021 Annual Report here.
We can offer you impartial information, advice and support if you are:
a parent or carer for a child or young person up to age 25 with special educational needs or disabilities
a child up to age 16 who has special educational needs or disabilities
a young person aged 16-25 who has special educational needs or disabilities
The aim of the service is to empower, enable and encourage parents to take an informed and active part in their child’s education and related health and social care matters, and for
children and young people to be involved in decisions about
their own education and futures.
Parents and carers can also get information, advice and support
from the national charity for families with disabled children, Contact.
You can visit their website here or call their freephone helpline
on 0808 808 3555.
